Limestone (or “Chaux” in French) has been a popular finishing layer in Mediterranean countries for centuries, both indoors and outdoors. Our 100% natural limestone plaster is suitable for all decorative (wall) surfaces. Limestone plaster is characterized by a soft, velvety appearance and has breathable and moisture-regulating properties.
From fine and smooth to coarser “cray”
We supply it with coarse or fine grains. A fine grain creates a very smooth, marble-like plaster layer, while a coarser version leads to a loamy or clay look. Combining grain sizes is also possible, creating a moderately smooth finish.
Natural shades
We offer 30 beautiful natural shades as standard. We can also mix colours upon request. All in all, limestone plaster is an interesting alternative to plaster. Check out the many advantages further down this page.
Opt for a standard plaster wall finish with a coat of paint? Or would you prefer a high-quality, two-layer limestone plaster, finished in colour? The latter option provides a stronger finish and the colour is embedded throughout the plaster layer.
Depth of colour
This creates more depth than paint! Besides this beautiful effect, limestone plaster is a very pleasant product to apply due to its long workability.
For indoors and outdoors
Limestone is a beautiful type of finishing plaster for both interior and exterior walls. It is even suitable for bathrooms, with the exception of shower areas.
Grain sizes for every style
Our limestone plaster is available in two grain sizes (R or L) or in a desired ratio. Depending on the grain size, you can create a more rustic finish, a clay-like finish, or a very smooth, marble-like finish. The combination of both grain sizes, along with the smoothness of the plaster, creates endless variations.
Curious about the benefits of our Limestone Plaster?
Our Limestone Plaster is available in 20 standard colors.
Shades
Colours can always vary depending on the ambient temperature, humidity, and the application, plastering, and polishing method.
A custom made colour? That’s certainly possible too. Provide us with the desired colour code (such as RAL, NSC, F&B etc) and we’ll make it happen. Note: these colours are always approximate.

leveling the base walls (see technical sheets)

Hydraulic lime mortar consists of limestone and clay, which is formed through combustion and quenching. Lime is one of the oldest and most durable building materials.
Our Lime Plaster is a 100% natural lime and is available with coarse grain (MarbrexR) or fine grain (Marbrex L). The lime is not supplied in powder form, but as a ready-mixed lime mass. The lime is colored using pigments to create a solid-colored plaster layer after application. The lime plaster can be finished/protected with a wax or an impregnator (and coating), depending on the space and application.
This is possible, preferably on stone or concrete surfaces (facade or exterior wall) and by properly preparing and priming the surface.
Certainly, the tiling must first be assessed for crack-free/solid condition and then prepared with a primer and a special leveling layer. Then the lime plaster can be applied.
If a crack or dent has developed in the lime plaster layer, it can always be locally filled or touched up. If necessary, the topcoat applied afterwards can be locally colored to eliminate any color differences.
Lime plaster is softer than cement-based plaster (such as Béton ciré Pro) but harder than a gypsum plaster layer. Adding a wax or impregnating agent (and coating) as a protective layer makes lime plaster more impact-resistant
There are no set guidelines, but we recommend reapplying the wax layer every few years for maintenance. A protective layer consisting of impregnating agent and coating will last for at least 10 years before needing to be reapplied.
We have 30 standard colors to choose from. However, colors can also be supplied upon request, such as RAL/NSC/F&B/Pure & Original, etc. We always prepare a sample first.
Indoors: on walls and ceilings as a decorative finish. In wet areas, lime plaster can be used as follows: in the bathroom (excluding the shower), and on the kitchen wall behind the cooking area in combination with additional special protective layers.
Outdoors: on walls and facades, provided they are properly prepared.
Lime plaster is made from natural lime, which is harder than plaster. Lime is somewhat waterproof. Plaster, on the other hand, is a naturally occurring soft sulfate mineral. This dissolves when in contact with water.
Yes. Lime plaster is harder than gypsum plaster. Lime plaster is also more waterproof and breathable/moisture-regulating, which has a beneficial effect on the indoor climate. Lime plaster can be customized and is available in various sizes. This makes it a perfect finish for walls, offering a variety of appearances.
No. Lime plaster isn’t 100% waterproof, but it can withstand splashes of water and water vapor. It even has moisture-regulating properties.
Yes. Due to its moisture-regulating properties, lime plaster is perfectly suitable for surfaces that aren’t heavily exposed to water (such as showers). It’s also very suitable as a back-up in a kitchen, provided it’s finished with a coating to make it resistant to grease stains and moisture.
Yes. Lime plaster lasts a lifetime. Some rooms do require maintenance, such as reapplying the protective layer every few years.
The costs of the lime plaster materials, including labor, depends on the number of square meters, the type of surface, the type of space, and the complexity of the project. Consider, for example, the number of corners. Based on accurate drawings and a site visit, our specialist will prepare a customized quote.
Lime plaster offers the benefits of natural properties (moisture-regulating, mold-resistant), which are beneficial for the indoor climate. Moreover, it offers endless possibilities in terms of appearance, from a marble look to a rustic clay-like effect.

A good lime plaster is made from the purest limestone and is often somewhat ‘greasy’.
No. Loam is actually silt or loess combined with clay. Lime plaster is made from quarried limestone
Yes. With fine-grained lime plaster, a very smooth and dense finish can be achieved by plastering. Combined with the wax protective layer, the lime plaster then acquires a glossy appearance, giving it a marbled look.
In addition to the béton ciré we pioneered, we’re seeing lime plaster gaining ground as an alternative to smooth plaster and whitewash. Based on our extensive experience with high-quality plasters, offering lime plaster as an excellent alternative to plaster was a logical next step for us.
